The 34,000-dwt lakes-suitable carrier,MV FEDERAL ST.LAURENT, and her five sisterships were built at Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. and delivered to FEDNAV CO., LTD. in April, 1996 to 1997. This type of ship was designed by Jiangnan Shipyard itself.

Features

1. The vessel is designed as a single screw, low speed diesel-driven, ice strengthened bulk carrier and specially optimized for Great Lakes service.

2.The vessel has a specially deisgned and optimized hull form, which provides better speed performance and competitive deadweights at both Lakes and scantling draughts as well as hold capacity. The special designed bow bulb can provide the vessel with better hydrodynamic performance.

3.The cargo space is divided into six(6) cargo holds suitable for carrying dry bulk cargo including grain, coal, iron ore, steel coils, billets, ingots, bauxite, alumina, cement in bulk and cement clinker. The tank top is specially reinforced for steel coil and cement loading.

4.Electric motor-driven, folding-type hatch covers are provided, each cover consists of four panels.

5.Three(3) electrohydraulic deck cranes each with SWL 30-tons are equipped on upper deck, the deck and relative components where crane located is strengthened. Deck cranes are designed for operation at -25oC.

6.Auto-tension device is provided for two mooring winches on upper deck aft.

7.Fixed type CO2 fire extinguishing system is provided for engine room and cargo holds.

8.A bow thruster (electric-motor-driven, CPP type) with three position control stands (wheelhouse, port and starboard bridge wings) is installed, and a AST (Anti-Suction Tunnel) is installed just behind thruster tunnel in order to improve the efficiency of thruster when the ship navigates in slow speed.
